Electrical FAQ

CAN I DO SMALL ELECTRICAL JOBS WITHIN MY HOME BY MYSELF?

Definitely NOT!

In Australia, only qualified electricians are certified to do all the domestic wiring or home rewiring. Therefore, it is illegal and not advisable for you to do such tasks. Even when the tasks have been done to the acceptable standards, it won’t pass certification and that is bad news particularly when you intend to sell your property. It is best and for safety reasons that you hire a well trained and certified electrician to undertake all your home wiring tasks. Also, you will be risking your own safety and that of your entire family and friends.

HOW DO THE ELECTRICAL SAFETY SWITCHES SAVE LIVES?

In the regular power circuits, the electric current flowing into an appliance will return via the neutral wires. So when the electrical circuit is compromised, the electricity could end up leaking to earth through anyone who gets in contact with the appliance, leading to serious injury or causing death.

The safety switch will detect the power loss from a circuit, and will cuts the electricity supply within 30 milliseconds – 0.003 seconds. Notably, the response time is much faster than that of a heartbeat, therefore it greatly reduces the probability of serious injury or death.

WHO CAN INSTALL SMART WIRING SYSTEMS AND HOW DO THEY GET TRAINED?

Our installers are certified communications and electrical cablers who’ve also undergone special training for accreditation in Smart Wired systems. The smart wiring system is to be installed only by accredited Smart Wiring installers.

  • Which electrical outlet grade should I have in my home?

Three grades of the outlet are available today on the market. The commonest and cheapest being Homeowner grade for installation for the builder-grade homes. But, these grades are flimsy and often wear out within 5-10 years. When you replace or install electrical outlets, choose the commercial grade instead – which cost about 50% more than homeowner kind. Even then the financial difference is unimportant since, under normal home use conditions, they last for 100 years. The Hospital grade outlets are very expensive and will cost ten times that of homeowner grade quality, and they aren’t really necessary; these are purposely designed to never-fail in medical facilities, for instance in powering breathing machines.

  • What’s a surge protector and do I need to get one?

A surge might come from local power stations or due to lightning. At times, a power surge can flood out to residents from a power station. The surge protector can help protect your electrical appliances from the power surge. Typically, surge protectors may be used for electronics like flat screen television sets and computers. If you want to protect your electronic devices and wish to have them operating efficiently without worrying about replacing them, then a surge protector may be what you need.

  • Should my house be re-wired?

It is advisable to have house safety inspection for your whole home to help you understand the status of its wiring. There is wiring that can be considered a major hazard. This is BX wiring, tune and knob wiring, and the ungrounded systems. These create hazards in your home and when in poor condition, re-wiring is advisable.

  • Will my home be destroyed during re-wiring?

Our installers have vast experience in homes that date back to over 15 years and we will use efficient paths and methods to complete the project in a neat and safe manner. Our team will preserve the structure and beautiful details of your home while keeping heavy repairs and costs to a minimum.

  • How long does it take to complete re-wiring and do I have to move out to have the process done?

For most homes, the whole process can be done within a week. Larger homes might take to about two weeks. And you won’t have to move out during the process.

Air Conditioning FAQ

WATER IS LEAKING FROM MY SYSTEM. WHAT CAN I DO?

Split systems

Indoor dust, debris, and dirt could build up inside an air conditioner unit; combined with humidity the condensate drain will get blocked. So ensure, regular servicing to keep this clear. The condensate drains may be run into the downpipes of your house; when these get blocked by debris and leaves, it will back up the condensation drain. When water is leaking from the indoor system, immediately switch it OFF and contact MasterCall Industries' AirCon.

Ducted systems

Indoor Units – when your indoor system is installed in the roof, there’s a safety tray in place to catch any condensation that overflows, which then drains to small pipes coming out from the side of the house, often above the eve. When you notice it’s leaking, immediately switch your system OFF and contact MasterCall Industries' AirCon.

Outdoor Units – It’s condensate drain works if the system is in the heating mode. The drain kit might have been put in place during installation. When not, it is possible to add a draining kit for you. Also, water might leak from the outdoor unit when it’s iced up, meaning that there’s a problem with the unit - mostly an issue with the gas refrigerant. Contact MasterCall Industries AirCon for support.

MY AIR CONDITIONER UNIT IS FAULTY, DO YOU SUPPLY THE PARTS NEEDED AND FIX IT IN A DAY?

When our team is running a diagnosing for any issue with your air conditioner, they will do their best to fix the issue whilst they are there. But, there are some instances when this might not be possible, these are:

  • The repairs needed will take several hours.

At times the system requires more time for the repairs, and in such situations, we do need to arrange to return to finish this. We’ll have other jobs set for that day and since we might not predict how long the repairs might take without a technician’s assessment first. When this happens, the technician reports his findings to our office and repair recommendations can be emailed to you. After you accept, we then schedule a repair date within the nearest time available.

  • Parts are required.

The Air conditioner systems comprise of many parts, both mechanical and electrical, and each brand has different parts that generally cannot be interchanged. It’s not possible for us to always have each part for all different model s with us. When this happens, the technician files a report on his findings to our office and repair recommendations are emailed to you. Once you accept this, we’ll order the needed parts and once they arrive, we schedule the repair within the soonest available dater.

  • Two Technicians are needed.

The safety and health of our technicians are paramount. When it becomes evident that access is unsafe or difficult, we will have to come back another time for further repairs with two technicians.

SHOULD I REPLACE OR REPAIR MY FAULTY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM?

There are several things that need to be considered when trying to determine whether to replace or repair. For instance;

How old is the system?

What are the costs of replacing the system?

What’s the cost for the repair? This is considering that other faults could occur after the first diagnosed fault has been repaired.

The warranty period for repair and on parts compared to doing a replacement.

Waiting period for repairs – for an older system, the parts might not available or need to be sourced from abroad, and these might take a minimum of 6-8 weeks.

We could say it’s best to pay for a technician who will assess the faulty unit before you make a decision. When you opt for a replacement over a repair, we’ll credit it to your Diagnostic Call out fee.

MY AIR CON SYSTEM OPERATES BUT IT DOESN’T COOL OR HEAT ENOUGH?

Read through the following:

Check whether the air outlets of the outdoor or indoor unit has obstacles blocking it. If yes, remove these obstacle to improve its ventilation.

In case the air filters are obstructed. Clean out the filters.

What’s the temperature on system set to?

Are the fan speed controls set at a low speed?

If the windows or doors are open. Shut windows and doors to keep the external air from flowing in.

Check if direct sunlight gets into the room. (If cooling) use blinds or curtains.

When the room has too many occupants, the cooling effect will decrease, since there’s a lot of heat in that room.

Check whether the heating of your room is excessive. The cooling process decreases when the heat gain in a room is more.

MY AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEM STOPS WORKING AFTER A WHILE?

Confirm whether the air outlet or inlet of the indoor or outdoor unit is blocked. When so, remove the obstacles to allow for better ventilation.

Check whether the air filters are clogged. Clean them and it is done using soft clean cloth – when stains are tough to remove, you could use water. The filters need to be cleaned when summer begins and as winter begins.

Security System FAQs

  • What kinds of home security cameras are available?

The modern outdoor/indoor video surveillance systems for home security are full motion, full color, and high resolution. Again, the best security cameras offer night vision and can quickly adapt to lighting changes, allow for remote monitoring and can be controlled through mobile devices or a desktop computer.

The primary difference between outdoor and indoor security cameras is in the quality of construction; this varies since outdoor cameras have to resist harsher conditions. Also, outdoor cameras should be more durable since they're in particular vulnerable to disabling attempts by criminals. Some of these systems are housed in tamper-proof casings.

As you choose video surveillance, you have a choice between the moving and fixed cameras. For some situations, a fixed camera works best and when the moving camera is the best choice, the speed dome cameras may be the best choice since they make it a lot harder to evade view.

  • Will my pets trigger the motion detectors?

Home security systems may function fully even when you have pets in your home. First, typical motion sensors won’t detect a dog, cat, or anyone weighing under 40 pounds. (There are Sensors with various weight settings too.) Secondly, technology for modern home security can identify the human movements and our animal pets. Movement patterns and speed are considered together with mass to ensure that the pets don’t cause false alarms.

  • Should I opt for hardwired or the wireless security systems?

Wireless and hardwired security systems each has its benefits and disadvantages.

The hardwired system could be the most dependable, but you will risk having the wires being cut. And again, hardwired systems require more labor when installing.

Wireless systems may be used in multiple places and may be installed within 30 minutes with no help from the technicians. These are portable; hence the wireless system can be moved from one property to the next. Signals used by the wireless security systems tend to be more powerful compared to those used on mobile phones, but it is possible to have electromagnetic interference and poor signal.
